BYD T5 Hybrid Covers 1138km on One Tank and Full Charge
BYD's T5 hybrid light truck has set a new standard for efficiency by covering an impressive 1138 kilometers in just two days during a performance test. This included 133 kilometers driven in pure electric mode, while the average fuel consumption was only 9.8 liters per 100 kilometers when running on fuel alone. What’s the secret behind such outstanding performance in challenging road conditions?
The answer lies in the advanced technology of the BYD T5 hybrid light truck. These remarkable results were achieved during the “One Tank for a Thousand Kilometers: Technology Conquers China” challenge.
On November 23, 2024, BYD launched the challenge, assembling a team of technical experts, seasoned drivers, and experienced guides. Starting from Lhasa, the BYD T5 hybrid light truck traversed the iconic 318 Sichuan-Tibet Highway, passing through Chengdu, Enshi, Wuhan, Jingdezhen, and Ningbo, before reaching its final destination in Shenzhen.
The journey covered a total of 5500 kilometers, crossing diverse terrains including plateaus, snow-capped mountains, winding roads, lakes, urban areas, and rural landscapes. The challenge not only highlighted the exceptional performance and safety features of BYD’s hybrid truck but also set a new benchmark for the industry while addressing the growing demand for greener and more efficient logistics solutions.
Notably, the route included notoriously difficult sections such as the 72 Bends of Nujiang, the 18 Turns of Tianlu, Zheduo Mountain, and the Xintang Cliff Road. Despite these extreme conditions, the BYD T5 hybrid light truck excelled, showcasing its powerful electric motor, long-range capabilities, and reliable safety systems.
At the closing ceremony, BYD Commercial Vehicle Research Institute expert Zhao Fulei presented key highlights from the challenge. He reported that the truck traveled approximately 2045.9 kilometers over seven days along the Sichuan-Tibet section, averaging 292 kilometers per day, with an impressive fuel consumption of just 9.6 liters per 100 kilometers. On the Chengdu to Ningbo section, spanning 2061.3 kilometers, the truck achieved an average of 10.7 liters per 100 kilometers. The final stretch, from Ningbo to Chaozhou, included a full tank and full charge test.
During the celebration, the BYD T5 and its "Conquering Team" were warmly welcomed back, passing through a victory arch in front of industry guests.
Although the challenge is over, it marks just one step in BYD's journey of technological innovation in the commercial vehicle sector. As a leader in new energy vehicles, BYD is dedicated to driving green transformation and intelligent development, with an eye on reshaping the industry’s future.
