Gotion High-Tech Plans to Build Battery Assembly Plant in Malaysia
On August 23, Malaysia's national news agency reported that Gotion High-Tech plans to build a battery assembly plant in Malaysia to boost its presence in Southeast Asia.
Gotion High-Tech’s Asia-Pacific President, Cheng Qian, stated on August 22 that the company is very interested in establishing a battery factory in Southeast Asia. The batteries for the Malaysian plant will be imported from China, and the project is still in the discussion stage.
Expanding internationally is a key strategy for Gotion High-Tech. The company has already planned battery production facilities in Asia-Pacific, the Americas, and Europe-Africa, with a total capacity exceeding 200 GWh. Besides Malaysia, Gotion High-Tech is also setting up production facilities in Vietnam, the USA, Argentina, Indonesia, Slovakia, and Morocco.
Notably, the Malaysian assembly plant will not be Gotion High-Tech’s first battery factory in Southeast Asia. In December 2022, the company partnered with Nuovo, a subsidiary of Thailand’s PTT Group, to form a joint venture called NVGOTION. NVGOTION produces battery modules, packs, and management systems for various types of vehicles and energy storage systems. The first battery product from NVGOTION will be launched in December 2023 and will start supplying batteries to NETA Auto, a subsidiary of the Chinese company, Neta. NVGOTION’s initial production capacity is 2 GWh, with plans to expand to 8 GWh annually in the future.
Additionally, Gotion High-Tech’s battery plants in Germany and Silicon Valley, USA, are already operational, and its factory in Vietnam is set to begin production in October this year.
