Scania Unveils Its New Super Truck Series in China
On August 16, 2024, Scania officially launched its new Super truck series via a live online event, themed "Heritage and Innovation, Infinite Future." The event showcased the Super lineup, its upgraded features, and the starting prices for the initial models. The new Super trucks come with Scania's latest, high-efficiency engines and improved features, including a new fuel tank, which can save 10% more fuel compared to the existing NTG models—an impressive achievement in the truck industry.

The Super trucks feature Scania's most advanced engine system, enhancing fuel efficiency, operating economics, and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. David Källsäter, Managing Director of Scania Sales (China) Ltd., highlighted that the Super has won several international awards, including the Green Truck Award for 2022 and 2024, demonstrating its strength and global recognition.
The event also revealed fuel consumption data from third-party tests. On a 2,685-kilometer route from Yunnan to Guangdong, the Scania Super 460G 6x2 achieved an average fuel consumption of 26.18 liters per 100 kilometers when fully loaded, proving its excellent fuel-saving performance in real-world conditions.
The Super powertrain, developed over five years with an investment of 2 billion euros, includes the Super 13-liter engine, Opticruise G25 and G33 transmissions, and the R756 rear axle. These components work together to offer top-notch fuel efficiency and performance.
The Super 13-liter engine not only meets future emission standards but also boasts a 50% thermal efficiency. It uses the TwinSCR system to maximize fuel use while minimizing carbon emissions. The engine's lifespan is extended by 30%, with a maximum output of 560 horsepower and 2,800 Nm of torque, providing excellent power and fuel economy.
The Opticruise G25 and G33 transmissions are more durable and efficient, with a wider gear range. They are smaller, lighter, quieter, and more compact, offering smoother and quicker gear changes and longer oil change intervals. All Super models come standard with a hydraulic retarder providing up to 4,700 Nm of braking torque, enhancing safety.
The R756 single-stage reduction rear axle follows the Super's low-speed, high-torque design, operating with a lower gear ratio and offering a wider range. It is lighter and more robust, reducing internal friction and extending its lifespan and maintenance intervals.
The Super also features innovative chassis improvements, including a new D-type fuel tank with increased strength and capacity. An optimized fuel system boosts the main tank’s fuel efficiency to 97% and the auxiliary tank to 93%, reducing refueling frequency and extending range.
In terms of appearance, the Super trucks now have grille-mounted LED lights for better night visibility. They come with aluminum alloy wheels, reducing weight and further saving fuel. The upgraded emergency braking system (AEBp) helps reduce the risk of accidents.
Scania offers various models, including 4x2, 6x2, 6x4, and hazardous material 6x4, with many customization options such as over 100 cabin colors, side airbags, safety features, and comfort seats.
China is a key strategic market for Scania, and the launch of the Super series in China demonstrates the brand’s commitment to the market. David Källsäter is confident about Scania’s future in China, planning to strengthen partnerships, accelerate strategy implementation, and leverage the new manufacturing base and local R&D center to better serve Chinese customers and support the commercial vehicle industry’s upgrade.
