Cummins Accelera Deploys 160 Hydrogen Fuel Cell Dump Trucks in Shanghai
Recently, Shanghai Jiaqi Municipal Engineering Support Co., Ltd.'s hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks, powered by Cummins Accelera, have commenced operation in the Jiading district of Shanghai. This marks the completion of deploying 160 hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks in the Shanghai by Cummins Accelera.
Cummins Accelera, in collaboration with Shaanxi Auto DECH Future, has developed 31-ton hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks specifically for urban waste transport applications in Shanghai's Pudong, Fengxian, Jiading, and Baoshan districts. These trucks have collectively covered over 3 million kilometers, with individual vehicles achieving over 60,000 kilometers, significantly contributing to Shanghai's green urban construction efforts.
As Shanghai's first operational new energy dump trucks, these vehicles demonstrate the adaptability of hydrogen fuel cell technology in challenging environments. They underscore the immense potential of hydrogen energy in energy conservation and emission reduction initiatives. Leaders from Shanghai Economic and Information Commission and Shanghai Greening and City Appearance Bureau have highly praised the deployment of hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks, recognizing hydrogen fuel cell technology as a crucial pathway for transforming municipal engineering with new energy sources.
Powered by the Cummins Accelera HD120 efficient hydrogen fuel cell system, coupled with a 410 kW electric motor and ultra-low system energy consumption AMT automatic transmission, these trucks form a robust "zero-carbon power chain." They excel in performance, environmental sustainability, and operational efficiency even under demanding conditions.
The 2024 models have been upgraded with larger 6×385L hydrogen storage systems, enabling a range of over 450 kilometers and boosting productivity of new energy vehicles. Continuous innovation and performance enhancements by Cummins Accelera and Shaanxi Automobile engineering teams have significantly improved vehicle aspects such as lightweight design, system electric efficiency, dust insulation, and hydrogen consumption, effectively reducing operational costs.
Over ten operational fleets have enthusiastically embraced hydrogen-powered vehicles in construction projects, resulting in substantial reductions in carbon emissions and significant improvements in on-site operational environments. It is anticipated that within five years, these efforts will lead to a carbon reduction exceeding 20,000 tons, thereby supporting the implementation of green building projects.
All 160 hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks are equipped with intelligent connectivity, ensuring 24/7 operational support through remote diagnostics, proactive service, and maintenance planning. Leveraging a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle control platform, performance monitoring and risk assessment capabilities are employed to ensure optimal driving conditions and safety.
Since their initial launch in June 2023, the fleet of 160 hydrogen fuel cell dump trucks has collectively traveled over 3 million kilometers. This achievement underscores the collaborative efforts across the hydrogen energy value chain towards a greener, carbon-neutral future. Looking forward, Cummins Accelera remains committed to fostering partnerships and advancing hydrogen technology applications, further contributing to the development of smarter and environmentally sustainable urban transportation systems
