FOTON Delivers 100 AUMAN Heavy-duty Trucks to Ethiopian Customer
On June 22nd, Beiqi Foton held a significant event titled "Together Win Future – BEIQI FOTON Ethiopian Key Account Delivery and Signing Ceremony" at its flagship store in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. During this event, BEIQI FOTON unveiled its international strategy, emphasizing the development of its business in Africa and Ethiopia. This move underscores BEIQI FOTON's commitment as a leading Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer to accelerate high-quality growth in Africa and deepen localized manufacturing.
During the event, Beiqi Foton hosted a key customer delivery ceremony for Ethiopian clients. As a multinational corporation engaged in transportation, construction, and mining sectors, the client has accumulated purchases of over 400 Foton vehicles since 2013. They highly appreciate Foton's high-quality products, reliable services, and spare parts support. At the ceremony, 100 AUMAN heavy-duty trucks, specifically designed for Africa's challenging road conditions with features such as fuel efficiency, durability, and strong load capacity, were delivered. Additionally, both parties also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for future large-scale purchases, showcasing their shared vision and confidence in a mutually beneficial partnership.
Beiqi Foton has officially launched its Africa strategy, which includes three three-year action plans aimed at building comprehensive capabilities across the entire value chain, including products, networks, services, parts, finance, and talent. Under this strategic framework, the company plans to achieve breakthroughs in key businesses such as heavy-duty trucks and pickups. Embracing an open and collaborative approach, Beiqi Foton is partnering with local stakeholders to foster mutual growth. Currently, Beiqi Foton operates a network of over 220 outlets across Africa and has established 12 knock-down (KD) factories, 43 parts warehouses, and 8 training centers in countries including Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria. By enhancing local presence and competitiveness, Beiqi Foton not only adds value to local supply chains but also contributes to sustainable development by generating employment opportunities and fostering social progress in Africa.
Ethiopia, as the second most populous country in Africa and the largest economy in East Africa, is one of the world's fastest-growing economies and a pivotal market for Beiqi Foton's localization efforts in Africa. In pursuit of this strategy, Beiqi Foton has established a knock-down (KD) factory in Ethiopia, slated to commence production this July. The factory will focus on manufacturing seven vehicle models including medium and heavy-duty trucks, light trucks, microvans, and pickups, with an anticipated annual output of 2,500 units. This initiative not only aims to expand Beiqi Foton's brand influence in the Ethiopian market but also promises to create 240 new job opportunities annually. Ethiopia is strategically positioned by Beiqi Foton as a core market in East Africa, leveraging the KD factory to boost sales of its entire product range. The company aims to enhance competitiveness with higher product quality and lower total cost of ownership (TCO), thereby delivering greater value to local customers. In alignment with Ethiopia's electrification strategy, Beiqi Foton plans to gradually introduce electric versions of light trucks, mini trucks, and vans, aspiring to establish itself as the leading brand in Ethiopia's new energy commercial vehicle sector.
Within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, promoting Africa's green, low-carbon transformation and sustainable development represents both a challenge and an opportunity. Currently, Africa's electric vehicle market is in its early stages but holds immense potential. BEIQI FOTON began developing new energy vehicle technologies in 2003, mastering core "three-electric" technologies, and advancing multiple development routes, including pure electric, hybrid, and hydrogen fuel cells. BEIQI FOTON's new energy products span the entire range of commercial vehicles, tailored to meet international technical requirements.
Products such as pure electric light trucks, vans, and buses have already obtained WVTA (Whole Vehicle Type Approval) certification from the European Union, marking their entry into South America, Asia-Pacific, and developed European markets including Germany, Italy, and Poland. Transitioning from the Chinese market to a global stage, Beiqi Foton is progressively driving the development of Africa's electric commercial vehicle industry. Their goal is to position Africa as a crucial component in global electrification efforts, leveraging their established technological prowess and market presence to foster sustainable mobility solutions across the continent.
