FOTON Expands Overseas Production in Thailand
As an emerging economy, ASEAN has become one of the regions with the greatest potential for development in the world. In recent years, FOTON Motor has also expanded its operation in Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. Now the share of its buses, trucks and special vehicles has been significantly increased and its reputation has been greatly enhanced in the region.
Early in 2011, FOTON Motor had officially entered into Thailand and inked deal with CP in 2019. CP FOTON, Established in 2019, is the sole importer and distributor of FOTON trucks and buses in the Thai market, where it aims to sell 1,000 vehicles this year, including 700 ICE vehicles and 300 BEVs. In 2019 Foton and CP has announced a truck factory in Thailand name CP FOTON SALES CO., LTD.
In response to Thai's target to achieve 100% production of zero-emission electric vehicles by 2035, CP FOTON plans to invest in a new commercial vehicle assembly facility for FOTON AUMAN, AUMARK, AUV coaches and new energy vehicles in the country, for sale locally and for export to other ASEAN markets.
In the year 2021, CP FOTON has launched 5 100% commercial electric vehicles to the Thailand market. This is the first year the company to sell EVs in Thailand.
Earlier in October the company said it delivered first batch of cement mixing trucks in Thailand to target growing demand as infrastructure investment is stepped up in the country.
With a 11 million-unit global sales and customers’ trust, FOTON Motor has received positive response from the market in Thailand. Over the next years, Foton aims to reach global sales of 150,000 units by 2025 and held a 42% market share in Thailan by 2024.
