Order Volume for Hydrogen Heavy Trucks in Two Months Surpassed the 10,000 Mark
CHINA(chinatrucks): According to statistics, the number of orders for hydrogen trucks has surpassed the 10,000 mark since July this year (excluding those delivered). In this regard, hydrogen heavy-duty trucks have become the dominant force in the production and sales of hydrogen vehicles.
"Government subsidies to fuel cell demonstration cities have solved some of the cost problem with using hydrogen-powered heavy trucks at this stage. With the formation of a complete hydrogen industry chain, the cost of hydrogen production will be brought down, which in turn will drove down the prices of hydrogen heavy trucks and further highlight the advantages of hydrogen-fueled heavy trucks.” said Fu Xiaoming, president of Sinohytec in an interview with reporters.
Multiple provinces have made heavy trucks a priority for the commercialization of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Take Tangshan, an industrial base and port city in Hebei province, for example, the city plans to operate 2,500 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2025, of which 2,000 units (80%) will be hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks. Cai Jin, vice president of China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, said that there is tremendous room for the development of hydrogen heavy trucks in China, and the sales growth of hydrogen fueled heavy trucks is estimated to around 350% year-over-year to 3,500 units in 2022.
The latest big order for hydrogen-powered heavy trucks has been secured by Weichai Power and China National Heavy Duty Truck. On September 1, Weichai signed strategic cooperation agreements with Qingdao Shengtonghua, Zibo Zhanhong Automobile and ACT WITH ONE MIND Logistics Technology to supply a total of 1100 hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles over the next two to three years.
Weichai Power, SINOTRUK, FAW Jiefang, Foton and Foshan Feizhi, as well as China Communications Construction, Sinotrans, China Power Construction and Beijing Municipal Road and Bridge Group Co., Ltd are all among the ones involved in the delivery and operation of these hydrogen heavy trucks.
