Chinese Contestant Wins Asian Champion in VOLVO Fuelwatch Competition

The final of Asian Pacific area in 2012 VOLVO fuel efficient competition was held on Nov. 7 in Geelong, Australia. 7 contestants from the Asian Pacific countries who have won the 2012 fuel efficient competition gathered for the final. Ultimately, Liu Jinqiang, the winner of the Chinese division who comes from China Railway Express, Guangzhou division won the champion.

After succeeding in the competition of Asia division in the morning on Nov. 7, Liu couldn’t continue his success in fighting for the champion of Asian Pacific division with an Australia contestant. An Australian local contestant won the final champion.
A total of 18.5 Km was arranged for the competition and maximum of 25 minutes for each contestant was required to finish the whole journey, half of liter oil would be reduced by exceeding 1 minute. Standard operations in correspondence with the road indicators were required and the competition would be judged by fuel consumption.
All the statistics during the competition were obtained through computer to guarantee the accuracy. In the result of Asian division, Liu ranked the first by 1% lower of fuel consumption over a Korean contestant.

The VOLVO fuel efficient competition is one of the value-added services in “VOLVO Fuel Efficient Pioneers” activity. The activity aims at enhancing the soft skills for drivers to save fuel, thus, improving the operation efficiency and profit for a cleaner road environment and an all-win situation.

A Review of the China Division, 2012
14 division winner from all over China gathered in Shanghai during Oct. 21 and Otc.22, 2012 to compete for the champion. Through remarkable theoretical and practical operation, Liu stood out among all contestants. In parallel with the fuel efficient competition, other activities, including open courses and the election of publicity ambassador were held at the same time.
A Review of the 2011 Competition
The 2011 competition was held in four divisions during 5 months. Contestants from 17 countries were trained at the VOLVO headquarter. Ultimately, Korean contestant won the golden prize and the silver prize went to Chinese contestant.
