Delphi Debuts "Tech Truck" at IAA 2012

Date:2012-10-18 Author:Mika Source:www.chinatrucks.com

www.chinatrucks.com: Highlighting future technology, Delphi Automotive (NYSE: DLPH) will unveil a new concept Technology Truck at the upcoming IAA Commercial Vehicles show being held Sept 20-27 in Hannover, Germany (Delphi’s booth is located in Hall 17, Stand No. A08). The Delphi ‘Tech Truck’ concept, which was developed by engineering teams around Europe, shows how the company can help CV OEMs develop green vehicles whilst helping drivers stay safe and remain connected. “Delphi has a history of developing products that address the needs of truck drivers while helping CV manufacturers meet global government regulations,” said Jeffrey Owens, Delphi’s chief technology officer. “Our display in Hannover incorporates many of our future and current technologies that keep drivers safe and connected while reducing the environmental impact of their vehicle.”

Technical highlights at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Show
Delphi’s ground-breaking high-pressure Heavy Duty Common Rail system combines proven hardware with an innovative architecture. This technology allows vehicle manufacturers to meet tough Euro VI and other demanding global emissions standards without significant modification to base engines. Delphi has entered production and continues to work on the next generation of ultra-high-pressure systems for 2020 and beyond.

A low-cost common rail fuel injection system for heavy duty diesel applications is being developed by Delphi. Optimized for the requirements of emerging markets, the new system uses the latest technology to deliver improved fuel economy and allows upgrades to meet future emissions standards.

Addressing Euro VI compliance with diesel exhaust sensors and diagnostics of diesel exhaust aftertreatment systems. Delphi’s particulate matter sensor, which monitors the performance of diesel particulate filters, combines fast response and high sensitivity with low complexity and simple, self-diagnostic capabilities. The need for precise control of urea dosing is expected to increase rapidly as selective catalytic reduction becomes more widespread. Delphi’s ammonia sensor is the first technology that allows direct measurement of ammonia on-board a vehicle.

Helping commercial vehicles comply with safety legislation and reduce the number of accidents with 360-degree ‘cocoon of safety’. These technologies include autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane departure warning (LDW) systems, which will become mandatory equipment in Europe for certain new commercial vehicles beginning Nov. 1, 2013, and for all new heavy-duty commercial vehicles by Nov. 1, 2015. Unlike most competitive systems that limit braking power to 50 percent, Delphi’s collision mitigation system uses input from its vision and radar sensors to allow full automatic braking power when it senses a collision is imminent. Delphi’s Rear and Side Detection System enables multiple features including blind spot detection, lane change aid and cross traffic alert. This competitively priced radar is the first on the market that can perform all these functions using 76GHz frequency, providing improved performance.

Optimizing commercial vehicle E/E architecture. Commercial vehicles should feature the same performance and cabin comforts as passenger vehicles while operating in rugged and harsh environments. In order for this to happen, many functions depend on electrical/electronic distribution systems to operate effectively and reliably. Delphi makes this possible by using its Velocity Tool Suite™ ofproprietary design tools and software to create a virtual model of a commercial vehicle’s E/E architecture – down to the last connector, electrical center, electronic module and wiring harness.

Charging electronic devices wirelessly in the vehicles. Delphi’s Wireless Electronic Device Charging System will eliminate multiple charging cords in the vehicle cabin and replace them with a safe, convenient and efficient automatic charging system. The system uses magnetic resonance, a technology that is superior to traditional tightly coupled inductive charging because it can transmit power over greater distances, does not require precise device positioning and will be able to charge multiple devices at the same time.

Delphi will demonstrate its ‘Tech Truck’ for media and customers during the IAA CV show in Hall 17, Stand No. A08. Delphi’s CEO and presidentRodney O’Neal and Michael Gassen, president, Delphi Europe, Middle-East and Africa, will host a press breakfast on Wednesday Sept. 19 from 9:00 to 9:30 at the Delphi stand. Additionally, company executives including chief technical officer Jeff Owens and divisional presidents will be in attendance.
