Navistar to support its China joint venture with industry-leading technology portfolio

Date:2012-08-10 Author:Eric Source:www.chinatrucks.com

www.chinatrucks.com: Navistar International Corporation (NYSE: NAV) today announced next steps for its In-Cylinder Technology Plus (ICT+) emissions solution. With the addition of ICT+, Navistar now offers a comprehensive emissions technology portfolio of clean, fuel efficient engines for a wide range of global emissions regulations around the world, including Euro V and Euro VI standards.

As previously announced, the introduction of ICT+ leverages the advances Navistar has made in clean engine technology. To accelerate delivery of ICT+, Navistar has entered into a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Cummins Emission Solutions to supply its proven liquid urea-based aftertreatment system for Navistar’s big bore engines for North America. This emissions aftertreatment system would be combined with Navistar's advanced in-cylinder engine to create ICT+.

Jim Yan, vice president, Research and Product Development, Navistar China

Navistar expects that by combining Cummins’ aftertreatment system with its existing MaxxForce® engines, its ICT+ solution will meet 2010 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions regulations and position the company to meet U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) rules in advance of 2014 and 2017 requirements.

“With this clean engine solution, we are taking the best of both technology paths to provide our customers with the cleanest and most fuel efficient engines and trucks on the market and to meet stringent U.S. emission regulations,” said Daniel C. Ustian, Navistar chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Lei Ning, Technology Director of Navistar China

Navistar’s current global engine family—including the MaxxForce 3.2, 4.8 and 7.2— were designed to meet current and future Euro emissions standards and are certified to Euro V emissions standards and in operation in Brazil.

“Navistar has a broad portfolio of advanced emissions technologies, including ICT+, that we will introduce to the Chinese market through our engine joint venture with JAC as appropriate to meet market demand,” said Rudi von Meister, president, Navistar China. “These technologies will position the JV to deliver a differentiated product to our customers that suits the market and offers our customers the best value.”

“With our new ICT+ emissions solution, Navistar offers engine emissions technologies using a combination of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technologies,” said Jim Yan, vice president, Research and Product Development, Navistar China. “By combining the advantages of these two technologies, we’re able to deliver cleaner, more fuel efficient engines with larger displacement—such as our MaxxForce13-liter engine—that will both benefit the environment and our customers for years to come.”
