China truck market remains sluggish in May
China's truck market still faces challenges in May, despite soaring output and sales of the whole auto industry during the month.
But some sub-type sectors reported good performances. The dump truck market remained strong and the semi trailer market regained momentum in May. All this suggested the recovery of China's port logistics and toll logistics market.
May output of heavy-duty trucks (including incomplete vehicles) reached 36,800 units, down 28.58 percent month on month and 11.36 percent year on year. Sales totaled 41,200 units in May, down 17.69 percent month on month and 11.55 percent year on year.
To be specific, output and sales of complete heavy-duty trucks each respectively reached 10,100 units and 11,600 units, down 25.42 percent and 16.27 percent from one year prior. As for incomplete heavy-duty trucks, output and sales are respectively 26,700 units and 29,600 units, down 4.54 percent and 9.57 percent.

As for medium trucks (including incomplete vehicles), May output jumped 19.86 percent from one year prior to 24,500 units, but still down 28.4 percent from April. Sales rose 17.71 percent from a year earlier to 26,700 units, but down 13.61 percent from the previous month.
To be specific, complete medium trucks' output and sales each respectively surged 51.14 percent and 57.96 percent from last year's month to 18,200 units and 19,800 units. In contrast, output and sales of incomplete medium trucks slumped 26.95 percent and 31.76 percent, respectively, to 6,306 units and 6,952 units.
The top six medium truck (including incomplete vehicles) manufacturers from January to May were Dongfeng Motor, FAW, Chengdu Wangpai Motor, Anhui Jianghuai Auto, Ziyang Nanjun Auto and Chengdu Xindadi.
Light truck market growth slowed down in May. Output and sales of light trucks (including incomplete vehicles) each respectively increased 11.28 percent and 13.25 percent from one year prior to 128,800 units and 129,300 units.
For complete light trucks, output and sales reached 122,000 units and 124,100 units, respectively, up 14.06 percent and 17.72 percent year on year. Incomplete light truck output fell 22.44 percent to 6,845 units, while sales soared 42.05 percent to 5,182 units.

Mini trucks achieved a robust growth in May. Mini truck (including incomplete vehicle) output and sales each respectively surged 75.2 percent and 77.51 percent from a year earlier to 52,400 units and 51,100 units.
Complete mini truck output and sales increased sharply by 78.88 percent and 81.27 percent, respectively, to 49,600 units and 47,900 units. Output and sales of incomplete mini trucks went up 29.15 percent and 35.14 percent to 2,858 units and 3,173 units.

Semi-trailer output totaled 14,500 units in May, down 37.97 percent year on year but up 22.49 percent month on month. Sales reached 15,000 units, down 40.49 percent year on year but up 15.68 percent month on month.
