Scania gets an order of 300 trucks from Ukrainian company
The Ukrainian company Europa-Trans has ordered 300 trucks fromScania. The order is Scania's largest single transaction in Ukraine to date.
"Europa-Trans plans to continue increasing its fleet and establish operations in neighboring countries. We thus see great potential in this transaction, since Scania is a truck supplier that also has a well-developed network of service workshops in the rest of Europe," says Andreas Puekker, Managing Director of Scania Ukraine.
The two-axle Scania G420 tractor units will provide haulage service for the expansive food producer Ukramyasoproduct. Europa-Trans is a subsidiary of Ukramyasoproduct, established for the purpose of ensuring capacity for transporting the company's products both domestically and internationally.
"To be able to respond to our customers' requirements for access to servicing, this year we will open an additional workshop in Kiev," Mr. Puekker explains.
Scania has been represented in the Ukrainian market since 1993. Scania Ukraine was formed in 1998 and today has nearly 100 employees, with its head office in Kiev and seven service workshops around the country. During 2007, Scania Ukraine sold a total of 360 new trucks. This was twice the 2006 figure and represented 12 percent of the new western European trucks imported into the country.
"Having previously been primarily a market for used trucks from the west, Ukraine has increased its demand for new western European trucks in recent years at the same rapid pace as Russia. Behind this rapid growth are major investments in expansion of the country's infrastructure, but also higher exports of agricultural and other products," Mr Puekker says.
Scania is one of the world's leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, and of industrial and marine engines. A growing proportion of the company's operations consist of products and services in the financial and service sectors, assuring Scania customers of cost-effective transport solutions and maximum uptime. Employing 35,000 people, Scania operates in about 100 countries. Research and development activities are concentrated in
Sweden, while production takes place in Europe and South America, with facilities for global interchange of both components and complete vehicles. In 2007, invoiced sales totaled SEK 84.5 billion and the net income amounted to SEK 8.5 billion.
